Thats awesome! She would sit nicely next to the 350LC!

Apparently a 2 stroke using injectors instead of carbs are actually clean and economic?!

No they're not. You lose loads of fuel out of the exhaust. Though there is some interesting work going on with variable compression 2 strokes.

You don't lose fuel with direct injection as the exhaust port is closed when fuel is injected.

I`m a 2 stroke boy at Heart , and the RD500 was the bike that made me want to ride in the first place . I would buy that WITHOUT hesitation . A mate of mine on Xbox Live has a Spondon Framed/swing armed RD500 that is heart-achingly beautiful . He used to have a video of it on Youtube absolutely devastating Fireblades on his local Rat run . The sound was addictive ... I miss the crackle and the smoke of 2 strokes , if legislation and Yamaha allowed that bike up top ........... I would have it without a care in the world .

I'm a huge RD nut, and have ridden a few RD500s. I found each and every one of them disappointing. When I was about 23 Matt Oxley lived nearby, he was writing for PB magazine at the time, and he came to the market square where we all hung out one evening on Yamaha's press bike - it was at the time the only RD500 in the country and no-one had even seen photos of it yet. Matt knew I was a huge RD fanatic and he offered me a ride on it and he followed on my Beckett tuned RD400. The 500 was fastish, but not really that much faster than a 350 YPVS in all honesty. It was heavier, bulkier, and wasn't as nice to throw around as a 350 either. The only thing I really liked about it was the noise, the rest of it looked like it had been rushed into production with little thought to the aesthetics., and certain areas looked a proper mish-mash.

A couple of years later two of my mates had an RD500 and an RG500 and I got the chance to ride both of them back to back. Those two rides convinced me I'd never want to own an RD500, and if I was spending my own money on a big stroker it would be the RG every time. It looked right, sounded right, went better, handled and stopped well - it ticked all the boxes the RD didn't. The RG was a good replica of Suzuki's race bikes, the RD didn't even come close to being what the GP riders had.

Over the years I've had a few opportunities to buy RD500s as they are about the only UK imported RD I have never owned, and I've always waited for an RG to come along at the right money instead.
