Go on then chakraist how would I go about that? The cable is friggin tiny and I'm more used to bike electrics.

Me too, but the cables are so small its going to be a right git.

There's got to be some level of fraud to get hold of a new set...

£1.49 for 3 year replacement cover. I normally wouldn't touch an extended warranty but for that amount...

Chakraist what do you use? I seem to remember you appreciating the finer points of hearing damage

What size cable (or what sorts of things) do you work with normally/have done before? I didn't think they were especially small but then I've only worked on things like PCBs and wiring bits like this together for custom stuff. Haven't got loads of experience (I am in IT, after all!) but my previous job involved a bit of this which was quite cool.

It will be more cost effective to buy a new pair. The cable they use in earphones especailly the cheap ones, is tiny and a b*tch to solder.

I use Sennheiser CX500s which I picked up for about £30 - they broke about a month ago and it was like losing a friend, but I found (my mum found) the receipt and curry's actually just replaced them no probs. They've got a year warranty each time I think, I would definitely recommend them if you don't want to go really expensive. After that though, I'd probably go for a pair of Shure E3cs, good all-round maybe could find for about £50-60, after that definitely Etymotic ER-4Ps which can be found for under £100, then definitely definitely Denon AH-C700 (which are £150 or so). After that, you're basically in the territory of diminishing returns, well, anything after the Etymotics and you'll struggle to tell the difference especially on the bike.

The name of those brings a smile, but I'll look into them. Never thought I'd ever buy a CX500 lmao

Repairing them is easy. Replacment jacks are available from maplins. Wire is a wee bit fiddly but its easy enough as long as you tin the jack and the wire and don't use too much then it will be easy enough.
But for the sake of £8.99 might as well buy new or upgrade to a decent pair of Sennheisers which will be made from better materials and will be less likely to break and easier to fix.
