According to the DVLA you do. This link says an EU vehicle can only be used in the UK for 6 months in every 12 without having to be registered in the UK, and if the keeper becomes a resident in the UK they must register it immediately.

I have to say, I completely agree with this - why should people living in the UK and using a car on UK roads for more than a holiday be able to avoid paying road tax? I'm not willing to subsidise people just because they don't bother to register their car!
