![]() Some people find this useful, especially if they drive company owned vehicles and a dispute is raised. |

Ah I see, I like it... Might invest in one - when I have a bike again.

Right the legal side. The Road Safety Bill 2004, a Bill is in effect a wish list which down the line some of it may become law. The Bill became The Road safety Act 2006, I cant find any reference to Speed Detectors in this Act and I have checked The Road Traffic Act 1988 to see if those amendments have been made. They havent so I can only assume that part of the Bill wasnt enacted. Im sure there are a few lawyers and Traffic Bobby's on here that should be able to confirm this. |

This is the statement from the Pogo site regarding the Road safety bill
Legality of Products Under New Road Safety Bill The section of the recent Road Safety Bill applicable to laser & radar detection is expected to become law in 2008 and is likely to ban certain types of speed trap detector. This Bill has been subject to widespread confusion and misinterpretation. We have consulted directly with the Department for Transport and established that the Origin b2, b2 Solo and Pogo products will remain legal, but many competitive products will not. If the Bill becomes law, it will be necessary to remove the detachable laser detector supplied with the Origin b2 and Pogo Alert (this only takes a few seconds to remove), but the main unit will remain fully legal. Pogo/Origin users therefore benefit from the maximum protection for their lives and licences that is permitted in law, both now and in the future.

I'm not trying to be rude so sorry if it sounds that way! But as motorcyclists we should be observant and reading the road including road signs. Surely we should be spotting signs for speed cams before we get to them? So why should you need a detector? Most cams are placed in built up areas or on the way out of them so just stick to the limit till it goes national and you sould be fine no?
Again not trying to offend anyone but I guess we do get caught out in new areas and it would help to have a detector. I'm 50/50 on it. |

This was a new area for me, and how many times do you see a camera sign and never see a camera? It wasn't in a built up area, but on a section of dual carriageway, and it's the only section of this road that doesn't have a 50mph restriction.
It's the only part of this road where you can overtake, the rest is single carriage way, with nose to tail traffic. On a bike it's ok, but I was in my car On this section of roard there were numerous laybys on straight sections, to site this van before where it actually was. But it was on a bridge on a downhill section, with a curve. So the chances of seeing the van were very much reduced. I always look well ahead, even when driving my car, but if you'd seen where this van was you'd understand my gripe. So a bit sneaky in my book. All I'd like is a reminder that I'm entering a zone from a legal detector. Sat Nav is ok, but doesn't remind you about the mobile sites.

Add to this the idiots on bicycles, the scooter-chavs and the black cab drivers (oh and the Private Hire drivers) and you hardly have time to look at the road (because you are also keeping an eye on your speedo - right?) Anything that helps is a good thing really, at least until the Govmnt get round to replacing the speed cams with "Real" traffic cops to catch the idiot cyclests, scooter-chavs etc and take even more things you have to watch out for off the road. And no its not insomnia, its a +13 hour time difference - Hi from Auckland NZ ![]()

One final comment, its all very well saying be observant, but how can you spot a mobile camera when its hidden inside a horse box! I know its only North Wales that do this, and I hope it doesn't catch on.
Its a common practice in Holland where the camera is hidden inside all kinds of street furniture, wheelie bins, car trailers etc. As well as cyclists and scooter riders, we need real policemen out there catching idiots using mobile phones, drink and drug drivers.
