I'd be inclined to think they are bloody rip off merchants. My dad just told me someone where he works, had recently moved in with his new burd, and his license was held at his mothers. He'd had a lot of mail at his mums but not been around to pick it up...god knows how long he'd forgotten to update his license to his new address, but he got a shock when he found himself in the cells for the night and then fined a grand, for failing to declare his new details

Yes you will be sent a reminder.
I've just had my address changed. Great, 9 years 11 months of ownership. So i get my nice new license, new address, no points, brilliant. Then i have a letter the next day saying its due for renewal, so along with a new picture, and £17.50, i've just sent it off today. Why couldn't they have sent me it earlier so I could do it all in one go. I dislike the DVLA |

this is also why they want to introduce national ID cards ... so they can rip us off even more... its not about security its about getting more money out of the public ..

Hmm...I got my original photo licence in 2000 when I passed my car test...then kind of "renewed" it this year when I did the bike test, but didn't send a new photo or anything like that. Does that mean I still have to renew in 2010???
