dam it
i still on that site.
you can click on a name and get ALL the info..

I clicked on my uncles name.. only 5 come up. one is fromm my home town..so could be related to my uncle I clicked on the name and he lived.. (and died at 26 in the first world war) -- he lived .. on thesmae street and about 3 doors away from where Mr C off this site lives now..

maybe not a coincidence given the amount of folk that died I suppose.. but an odd fact none the less.. degrees of seperation etc..

Ypres is excellent. I wasn't that fussed about going, but found it very interesting once I was there. Can't help with the site, sorry.

I've been on this site and printed off the certificate of my Grandad. I framed it and put it up in my hall about 8 years ago. It's my little way of remembering someone I never met. He was only 32 when he was killed on the first night of action at El Alemein. I wish I could go to see his grave, one day...

I too have put in my surname, Austin, for WW1. I am overwhelemd by how many died. I don't know of any that were directly related to me, but my father never spoke of his rellies who had been killed. So I'm searching out any from Kent, as grandfather came from the Isle of Sheppey. And there are so many from Shropshire, where I now live. How was there anyone left, the population was so much smaller than it is now.

I really am lost for words.

When they talk of a lost generation for that era they really mean it. Although the casualties affected the Commonwealth forces quite badly - consider the French who nearly wound up with a total imbalance of the number of women to men in the period immediately following WWI due to the losses
