You're not paying for air - you're paying for the use of a compressor, hoses and gauge equipment. Have you any idea how much such things cost? Not to mention as they're being used commercially they must be regularly re-calibrated. These things are not cheap.

And they're still crap because of the abuse they receive from careless customers, if I ran a petrol station I wouldn't have one at all - too expensive and too often in need of repair. Buy a footpump.

i realise this, but the amount of profit petrol stations make out of us the least they can do is give us a bit of air for nothing i think.

Go to Wilkinson and spend 7.99 on there compact electric air pump, runs of a cig socket. If you have a socket...
Its so small it fits in my tank back and there is still load of room.

My tesco doesn't charge for the use of their air pump (Bradford), however, its never flipping working. I wouldn't mind if they charged 10p like Morrisons do, if only it worked all the time!

As a side rant, I went to pump up a flat on the car at 9am last Sunday morning, went to Tesco, as its just around the corner, but the pump is knackered. So, thinks I, I wonder if they have any 12V things for sale... apparently not in the garage, but in the store they do. What use is that information at 9am on a Sunday? The store doesn't open for another 2 hours! Grr...

Because they know that by you having to go into the supermarket you will "realise" there are other things you need/something you see and want = more profit for them....stupid psychology

They should have an example of their whole hardware range in their petrol station shop or at least a realistic range for emergencies such as yours
