Cheers y'all- the battery is only a few months old- the terminals and connectors are all good.

The bike is starting fine at the mo- a few start attempts in the utter cold yesterday, 2 rides and no sign of the battery strength dipping. I'll check the starter relay before I head home.

I did notice this morning that it only started happening when I put the bike in gear- I could rev to 3/4k with no problem.

I do hope it's not the reg/rec- though I did have issues with it a few months ago- is an Electrex that apparently wasn't working, then was after I took it to them and tested it. I'll be getting a Suzuki part next time, but they are the best part of £160/170.

K- I was wrong about the reg/rec- lights were getting brighter when revving (just looked the other way this morning).

Popped by Braggs- Roger had a look and reckons it's corrosion- probly the earth from the dashboard. He ruled out the starter relay saying it's on a different circuit.

Gonna have a look on Saturday- handy as I have some nightbreakers and my nautilus to fit, so I can get the whole fairing off and make all the jobs easier...

Incidentally- derail- I'm gonna get some wire from Maplin for the dash and horn- are they both 15a wire? Also, can I get connectors to fit over the prongs on the horn/relay, rather than just soldering?

Cheers for all your help guys.

Yes spade connectors will fit over the horn and relays connectors, I would advise getting the ones with seperate insulation, and soldering the crimp connectors in, then giving it a burst of ACF50, ensures trouble free wiring for a long time.

Cheers Chris- and I assume 15a will be sufficient for both jobs?

Un plug the ECU, give the connectors a clean and plug back in. I had a similar problem about6 years ago, and that solved funny enough!

I think I'll be going around most of the connectors and giving them a scrub- just in case!

It does look like the dash is just losing power though...

That light dimming thing...is it symptomatic of a failing reg/rec? my lights dim from tickover when I apply throttle, but don't dim indefinetly. I think its always been that way though - maybe I have some bad connections somewhere around the loom?

Well- no sign of what's causing the problem with the clocks. It seems to have changed a little bit since i pulled it all apart, but all the wires and terminals look good- checked the starter relay, fusebox, ecu contacts and all the terminals in the loom.

Bugger.

And I'm still soldering and swearing at the connections for the horn.

Grrrr.

K. So. No answer on the clocks- gonna just give it to my mech to sort out.

Since pulling everything apart and fitting the headlights (nightbreakers), I now have no sidelights. Generally no bother as I don't use sidelights, but MOT's coming up, so need it sorting. Will double check fuses again tomorrow.

Got the horn on- it's loud. Bit obtrusive where I've got it, but not too bothered about that.

Good advice here too- try not to have to put your bike back together in the dark. Unless you like dropping/searching for bolts and generally swearing a lot!.
