But as said, it's really nothing to do with the bike (well apart from I suppose 'Busa's will go through them quicker?) and all to do with the maintenance. If you're prepared to do it properly every 300 miles then you should get a good life, like 40K (and still be tight on the sprocket - yup good test ) But you do know the SV doesn't have a centre stand? did your FJ?
Indeed my FJ did have a centerstand, was quite easy to do chain maint. Ill be getting some sort of a stand to lift rear wheel off the ground to be sure, once i get the bike. Oh and, DID chains does suggest lube every 300 miles.

Liz had 22K out of her OEM chain with a Scotoiler fitted after about 3K, its fair to say that chain got properly abused. It went through two winters, one of which the bike was doing 120 miles a day on horrible salty encrusted, wet winter roads and it never got enough TLC.

Bear in mind that an FJ will be always kinder to a chain due to having a smoother delivery, the power pulses of a V-Twin aren't kind to chains (or belts, so ignore what the Buell dealer is telling you) - single cylinder bikes are even harder on chains.

As the others have said, a well maintained chain with a Scottoiler fitted will last a very long time, the Scottoiler will save you the cost of your first replacement chain and sprockets.

Depends how you ride as well, if you spend all day popping wheelies off the clutch it isn't going to last as long as one that spends all day on the Mway

Ill just lube the chain every 300 and go from there, Ill try not to worry about it, its just the last 525 chain I had was on my 550 Seca, but that bike had so much driveline lash it was pathetic, had to drop 2 links in about 4 months time, though Im thinking this chain is of much better quality, the DID on my FJ did a very good job for me. If this new SV chain can go 40K miles Ill be happy knowing now that V-twins have so much power pulses. Time will tell.

Dont forget to clean it regularly as well. I think thats just as important as regularl lube is. Old chain lube and road dirt forms an effective griding paste and thats what I personally think does the chain in.

Its why I like the scotoiler so much, as the continuous lube washes the grit off the chain and you dont get that grinding paste type build up.

No clutch wheelie for me, at most a power wheelie or two is all. In the area I live in topend runs are out of the question, too many deer to cut in half u know. Mostly back and forth to work, an occational trip outta town to visit relatives.

Indeed I will, used to use WD40 on my FJ, great solvent for cleaning chains.

I dont know if you get it in the USA, but can you get parafin ? it'll do the same job as WD40 does, but its much much cheaper...
