As has been mentioned, that may coincide with the scottish Ar (not got a name yet) in which case you'd be more than welcome, failing that i'm sure a few of us will keep you company at some point, if you need any help planning routes etc up here just let us know.
Good luck

Mark, i am seriously considering doing the ride this year, and June is the month ive been looking at.

Im in two minds as to camping or B&B's. Camping is obviously the cheaper option.

Already started working out my routes, daily mileages, places to stay, etc.

You going it alone?

Have also got this planned for the summer - similar reasons see previous posts. I am looking at west coasts routes rather than a straight line approach. I will be doing it in the schools holidays though (teachers and time off doesn't mix). stopping in YHA as its cheap. I will let you know the route once we have planned it (planning week in feb) let us know of anything you have thought of.

The Scottish bit will probably be up to Glasgow on the motorway, then A82 up past Loch Lomond, on up to Fort William through Glen coe, across to Inverness (beautiful scenery), then up across the black isle to JOG. The A9 east route is a bit bland and full of tourists and speed cameras.

I want to do a lot of the route "off motorway" to keep the boredom down a little.

Dont forget, its about 900 miles end to end, but you have to get up there, and back home again when youve finished, so your looking at virtually double the mileage.

One alternative is that if there are a few of you doing it, you can get three or four bikes transported down to Lands end by motorcycle transport for around £140.00. Cheaper between you than all riding down there! Then get someone (my wife would volunteer) to drive the party down to the start line.

Just a few ideas!

I really want to do this but have this Scottish ride out in June (so it looks) and am off round Europe for three weeks on the 17th July.

So have a busy summer period and need to watch the holidays being taken.

I am thinking it needs to be bank holiday weekend for me either early may or even easter... Anyone fancy tagging along? I like the idea of the bike transport thing and so far there is only two of us going so space for two more at least...maybe more as i have not looked into this transport thing yet.

Mark if you are able to consider these options then i am more than happy to get involved in the fund raising side of things.... see if we can raise a mountain of cash!

Crikey Ogden, great story. Must have been a while ago though. You would have a fist full of speeding tickets if you tried to do those speeds on todays roads!

I read one story of a guy who did the trip the other way on his bike, dressed as a bunny rabbit! He did it in 17 hours.
