get her an ID card from the government. that way all her personal data will be on her, that way there'll be no need for any misunderstandings

If she was involved in an accident, the police would (AFAIK) breathalyser her as a matter of course. This is where Tim's question would pop up.

If she was polite and open about it, yes she would be arrested (for failing to supply a sample), then go down to the nick and have a blood test...

I'd be wary of going down the letter route in case the DVLA took it upon themselves to decide she's medically unfit to drive at all.

She wouldn't fail to comply, she'd attempt to give a breath sample, and then could get bloods done if unable to.

no disrespect to Mrs Tim but if the DVLA decide that with the doctors then surley thats safer for all of us?? Not that I wish that on anyone!

i would get the letter, and if bretherlised, show the letter to the police, but say im willing to try it, if it does not work, then im happy to do a blood test

i would expect they would drop it then....... unless she is involved in an accident, driving eraticly, or smelling of alchol

It is not a condition the DVLA would be interested in as it does not affect her ability to drive. What she cannot do is exhale for more than about 2 seconds without a shortness of breath and coughing fit. So she simply could not take a breathalyser test

She can explain her condition to anyone, even show them the lump of rubber where a breast used to be. What does worry me is that she has never had even had a shandy and driven. However, as she could not do the breathalyser, she would be arrested, taken to the local nick and then blood tested. I assume that plod would treat her like a criminal DNA/fingerprint etc. for failing to provide the initial test

Seems totally unfair when you simply are medically unable to provide a breath test.

But I would not believe you either. Your guilty, end of. 20 years in the Vaseline pits for you. enjoy.

I think carrying a letter from a Doctor would be a good start.

There are many officers that are Field Impairment Trained which is the funny walking about tests you might have seen in America to work out if the driver is unfit.

This would be another way to get to the end result and hopefully avoid being arrested.
