The freeware ones that I know of are rubbish. The one YC mentioned looks good from a googling, but it isn't free (unless you resort to something nasty like piracy...).

Then you find a pirate version won't start without realflights controller.

yep thats the same with all of them

simulators maybe expensive but probably going to save money in the long run

The demo is pretty pants. Graphically it's amazing, same as the physics, don't get me wrong. But those damn annoying pop-up adverts.
