you need a fat (pre 2004) IL4 to grip on to

Having extra long legs is good for many thinks but you must feel cramped a bit on track. Could try aftermarket pegs or as you suggested sitting a bit further back but I can't see you gripping the tank that much even with stompgrips. Even if you lean of down the side of the bike you may have trouble. Have a look at Xaus in the link, he's knee is about 6 inches away from the tank where as the rest are all tucked in behind. He's quite good too

I think all the tecniques can do your head in a bit, after I did CSS I was slower for the next 12 months trying to balance the throttle and load the suspension correctly everywhere. I prefer to just get on now
