bubble car "Are you serious?" at the Beaulieu Motor Museum

I am bitterly disapointed that this photo thread did not involve fitting the 1.8 Zetec into the bubble car. That's what i wanted to see. Hurumph!

I thought it was a mk1 but I the info plate just said "1981 Ford Escort RS 1800" with a brief description but nowt about which mark it was. And yes it was ari vatenen, the tour guide - propa nice fella - mentioned ari had taken it for a razz at one their display days.

And sinbad, yeah it's a bit of a trek from our end = 291 miles from the museum to york in around 4 + 1/2 hours. We stopped at marwell zoo on the saturday for a few hours, stopped in a premier in (Southampton North) with some nice food and a couple of beers, then had a nice easy day at beaulieu... Defo worth an overnighter to take the stress/rush out of your trip

They had that Lotus 49 there when Liz and I went a few years ago, its f*cking gorgeous.

I spent ages wandering around the old garage they had their, reminded me of my grandads workshop.

The Triumph looks like a Speed Twin. Could be wrong though.

definitely a pre-unit 500 with a Amal monobloc mark I. I used to have a Triumph Thunderbird in my youth (6t) 650 twin with single carb, lovely sound, but very unreliable and terrible vibration (unless youre a lady!, my girlfriends loved it at around 80!)

aye yeah the plan was to head to monkey world but we would have arrived around 2-3pm and monkey world shuts at 4pm, so would have been a bit of a waste. A quick bit of research on the fly turned up marwell zoo 25 mins from where we collected the engine so marwell it had to be

As for the engine plowsie, I'm planning on using a sierra donor for my kitcar (looking for a pinto engine with a "type 9" gearbox). Because ford are the good guys, they've got various bolt patterns on their gearboxes and engines, so a zetec engine will fit on a type 9 box = more reliable/modern power in a car which'll be registerred on earlier & less stringent emissions of the pinto block. Should make life easier when it comes to mot time. The chassis is about 40% complete at the mo, so plenty of time to strip, service and rebuild the zetec for when the car is done

I'm afraid they wouldn't let me reverse my mondeo into the museum workshop for the transplant lol

Sounds interesting, I have a Civic 1.4 engine in a chasis that is rather bent so wondering what to do.
