Thanks for the comments and the welcome folks.

Good spot on the chain, I'll have to get that looked after. With the trials bikes we used to clean the chains then cook 'em in graphite grease, do people do that with road bikes too? Or just normal oil? And with regards to the trials riding, mud and knobbly tyres are easier to handle than road tyres and salt/ice/snow/diesel! So I'll be taking it easy!

No idea what screen it is I'm afraid, I was told it's not a standard one but don't know any more than that! I can get tucked in behind it alright though, but then it feels like the wind is trying to rip you off when you sit up for roundabouts etc!!!

Bit OTT for a road bike, you aren't likely to get the same crap in the chain as you would trialling or crossing.

Clean with paraffin and re-lube, I use old engine oil, is the common method with road bikes.

RE the screen, missYC is quite right, try doing some motorway miles on a naked sv then have a go on yours again!

reeto st220 mike. bit in common me and thee, youth biking, break, wedding bells, kids, hit late thirties and back to bikes.
next stop, ac/dc, led zep, black sabbath etc.
