JHS racing got my a set of hyperpro springs and oil for £105.
GSXRthou shock from Ebay for £50 ish but be prepared to cut bits of battery box. So £150 on the cheap otherwise £500 ish on a rear shock and a GSXR front end but it does pay for itself almost if you shop for bits. |

OT abit but after reading this read up on hyperpro springs and they go on about how amazing progressive springs are and that linear are not, then in the parts list it states that all sv650 springs are linear???
How does that work? Last edited by arcdef; 02-02-09 at 11:20 PM. |

Try Twinshack for Hyperpro kits , pretty much the cheapest online . Some say that progressive springs are a waste on an SV as the stanchions are not long enough and a good set of linears do just as well

Don`t forget that you will need the bottom bolt and nut from the GSXR and the top threaded bolt you keep from your SV shock

i got some maxton springs for my front end (which yc kindly fitted for a bit of money
![]() apparently they're made to suit your weight and riding style. Only cost about 80 quid with oil & neccesary bits to swap it all over ![]()

Fixing the springs isn't an upgrade, it's a correction- just making the forks work right for you, they still work exactly the same. But even with the right springs in, they're still very crude forks, they'll work better but still not especially well. Emulators are good, nice straightforward upgrade.
I'd say go for GSXR, if you fit within the right weight range for a suitable fork, on grounds of cost, adjustability and performance- GSXR forks set up badly or sprung wrong can be worse than an emulator'd fork that's set up well and sprung right, but if you take the time and do it right the GSXR forks will outshine anything except for a full cartridge swap (which is extremely expensive). And once you've sold the SV parts, if they're in good nick, that can fund most of your swap- especially if you can go for slightly older parts, like the 2000-2003 GSXR750 forks. They're not in much demand now, while SV front ends and wheels are always in demand since we crash so much ![]() But it depends on how much performance you really want. Springs and oil works well, it gives you a basic competence that'll not let you down. And if you don't want to make such a big change as a fork swap- which can impact resale price and insurance- then emulators are a great option too. There's not really a bad choice here, as long as you do whatever you do right. Oh, and the advantage of springs is that it's a building block- if you correct the springs and oil and you still want more, well, you'd have had to change the springs anyway with emulators unless you weigh about 10 stone.

I don't see the point of cartridges except for minitwins where you can't mess with the externals.
Better to get some other forks (and especially the associated generally lighter wheels, bigger discs, better calipers) and get the forks revalved to suit.
