Its not a "real" story/poem as such but like said on mcninjas, it might just make people think before they rush out and get a dog and then grow bored of it

Very upsetting for someone who has just had their cat put to sleep to read... I didn`t even get to the end for crying.

Very moving. I wanted to hug my dog at the end but he's miles away

At least I could laugh whilst reading that, but only because my pup, Spider, is having fun in the snow and keeps running in and dropping mouthfuls of the stuff at my feet...
... I threw a snowball for him 20 minutes ago - he's still trying to find it.

My dog comes first...

... my horse comes second...

... people, if they're lucky, come third.

Kodo (my previous dog) used to come into work with me - that fact I could do that was intrumental in me being able to get a dog when I lived in a flat - then my boss changed his mind after 6 months...

... I quit my job.

Totally worth it. Years later, Kodo saved my life - my debt to my dog runs deep.

Good Grief!
Not being a dog lover I thought when I read your warning that it was sad, yeah ok.
But I had tears in my eyes when I'd finished it.

It happens far too often, with cats too (which I do love) I've always said when something happens to mine I'm going to the cats home and asking for the one thats been there the longest, however old they may be, just so that some of their life is good.

It's been years since I took my mate Pete for his final walk to the vets. I couldn't stay for his final moment and have felt guilty ever since. I knew if I'd stayed that I'd crack up so I nearly ran out of the place. Managed to hold it in until I was alone then cried like a baby. Couldn't do it to a dog for convenience, when you adopt a dog, he's a friend for life. Good or bad.
