Hey Kwak, I thought you were getting out on your Gixxer so often you don't need an Optimate.

To permanently disable alarm, so it doesnt give a beep every 20 mins once in service mode, put the ignition to "on" and hold down both the grey and black buttons together for 10 seconds until the alarm emits the beep. Now you can remove the battery! Also very useful if you're not using the bike for a long time, because in this mode the alarm doesnt drain anything from the battery.

But once you start the bike again...the alarm gets reactivated.

I am confused, I thought service mode was the one where (S4 Red one) you press to arm (2 flashes of the indicators) then press the other button and it flashes 3 times and then it's immobiliser only.

But that obviously doesn't work if you want to disconnect things (I assume), so what mode was that/what was I doing?

To fit my lead I just made sure I didn't break the connection - the only thing you need to take off is a screw on top of the terminal, you can keep the loom, etc connected if you are careful!

Kwak, battery should be under the riders seat.

Its much easier with the harness on, saves taking the seat on and off.
