Cycling FTW!

I currently have - and use - a quality mountainbike (which i saved long and hard for) and commuter retro mtb that I built from scratch and a racer that I got from Freecycle that I use for bad weather fitness training. My cycling is almost as important as my motorcycling to me.

It's great to come on a motorcycling forum and see some pushbike love. Others I have visited carry the vibe of being cycle-haters.

If you must, and I really mean must, perhaps a more up to date version of this.........

good luck on the re-built, hope you enjoy using it.

Cheers Mark.

Do it. You'll feel better, you'll be healthier and you'll have the smug satisfaction of passing commuters stuck in their cages going nowwhere.

I started commuting by push bike a couple of years ago and I've never looked back since.

I use a road bike and a scummy cheap hybrid for manky winter days, I love it.

Yes, but that is besides the point

It was commuting by bicycle back in 2003/4 that actually got me started with motorbikes. My repairing ability on bicycles is far greater than for motorbikes (so don't worry Mark, I won't be pm'ing you for advice all the time ), I'm just hoping I have the patience to do it properly, and not just throw a hissy fit after a couple of hours and take it to a bike shop.

I'll try to sort out some photos as I go along.

Ahem...it is with some shame I resurrect this thread. In March I decided to fix up my MTB...and yesterday I finished it!

Well, sort of. The front gears don't want to play (I can only use the middle chain ring), but the rest is ok. So, last night I went out for a mighty 2 mile circuit. It almost killed me, so tonight, I did it again but at a steadier pace. Came home rather rain-sodden, but grinning

I plan to do the same circuit for the rest of the week, then start increasing it until in a couple of weeks I hope to be able to manage the uphill commute to work.

I noticed an odd thing though....I kept pressing the (unresponsive) rapid-shifter on the left side. It was only at the end I my ride I realised I was unconsciously trying to indicate

You're not the only one to do stuff like that. When I started riding my MTB this year after not riding a pushbike for ages, I kept trying to look in my non-existent mirrors to see what was behind me!
