"The bad news about 'Watchmen' is that it grinds and squelches on for two and a half hours, like a major operation. The good news is that you don't have to stay past the opening credit sequence — easily the highlight of the film." — Anthony Lane

Perfect. I agree. That starting sequence was pretty heavy weight, rest was a 15 round lightweight bout, ending in a judges decision.

Do you remember the 80's?

Think alternative American society, but mainly based in the 80's, height of the cold war, fear of global nuclear war, that kind of thing.

It's not a superhero movie, action movie, war movie or suspense/thriller movie - it's simply a Watchmen movie.

+1 it is not meant as a action film....its a very interesting view on the nature of humanity. Stop on i'd say

Yeah, just don't go to see the car chases, because there aren't any

I've been trying to form my opinion of this movie for the last few days. And I'm still not sure if I liked it!!!

There were some brilliant touches to the movie, e.g. the beginning credits putting a lot of back story in. And a lot of the camera angles etc were faithful to the novel.

The violence was a bit more graphic than I'd been expecting - I had a lump in my throat when Rorschach ran his finger down that chopping board whilst trying to find the kidnapped girl!

The ending was probably a better plot idea than that in the book, and I think it was a better movie than Terry Gilliam would have produced.

I should be raving about this movie but the one actor that didn't seem to be beliveable was the actor who played Adrian Veidt. Or it could be that as the character was written differently to fit the big screen, that's what's jarring in my head.

I think I need to see it again. And if it's on at the IMAX with the inserted scenes for the two Bernies & the Tales of the Black Freighter, then I'll go to that too. I figure that as I gave the Phantom Menace 2 more viewings/potential get-out-of-jail-free cards I should do the same to this.

...and I'm glad that Soimon Pegg didn't get the part of Rorschach.
