Paul, please google "reliable motorbikes" and we'll have a chat about buying a motorbike that should run happily without eating anything expensive. The Ace looked lovely, and they're damn fine bikes, but you were rather crashy on it. Lets blame the bike and get something else

I'll be there

Bow to the masses and get a zx of some description, you know it makes sense...

As for me I probably won't make it 'coz a mate is leaving work for pastures new, which means free drinkies!

sorry to hear it's gone mate. as much as they're pretty good bikes for buses weren't parts just to few and far between as well as expensive(ish) for it to make much sense to get another. unfortunately i shall not be there on this fine evening as i will be packing up the car and going to bed early in prearation of going on holiday tommorrow morning.

if you're really stuck for a bike and need one for a bit on loan you can borrow the blade although it'll need taxing as it's on sorn atm.

I must be getting old, I reckon that R1 would be too much and not enough fun. But as it was said to me a long time ago, bikes are usually bought with your heart rather than your mind. If your heart is set on it, go get it.

All I can say is that if the funds permit, & your heart is set on an R1 - GET ONE !!

However, if you're still open to other ideas. then I have a couple :-

1) How about a decent 'streetfighter' ? I don't know how much you're gonna get in your insurance payout - but I do know that you loved your (mildly 'fightered) SV !!

2) GSXR 750 - just about all the useable power and advantages of the litre bikes - but without the unneccesary bits - cheaper on the old insurance as well

I was tempted to add a third option (BMW GS) - but I was afraid of the amount of abuse I might receive !!
there you go

Had thought of a GSXR 750 as I like the earlier ones (2000 - onwards) but there are loads around. I know there are a shed load of R1s about, but I don't see many of the 2000/2001 red versions around so I think that's what I'm going to go for.

Ian also suggested a 2002/2003 'Blade which is 2nd on my list. I'm off to see an R1 tomorrow and if it's good then I may return a very happy bunny!

Thanks again for the offer of loan bikes guys, it's really appreciated. If I need to spend more than another week on the train I might just have to take one of you up on it

Cheers,

Paul

TBH, after thinking long and hard about keeping it, I'm quite happy that they have written it off. They offered me £1780, which isn't a complete kick in the nuts, but I want the £2k it was insured for.

If I had the time/knowlege/tools etc I would have bought it back for the £569 they offered and kept it as a track bike, but i'd rather invest in a newer bike and take it from there. As Jambo pointed out, 3 crashes in 1 year on 1 bike......it will be nice to start afresh

I did think about a ZX12, then realised it was waaaay too much bike for me. If a tidy zx10 came up for not much cash I would be tempted (as long as it wasn't green)
