Towel trick is meant to melt the solder back onto the Chip... this wont work as your damaging all the other components at the same time!

My fix was playing about the processors and the heat syncs (removing the X clamps). You got one you want fixxed? Apparently, what i do is what gets done if you send it back to xbox.

I sent my elite back to the factory as it got the ring oh death (after about 80 hours of playing on it, seriously!) and they replaced the Motherboard in it.

I just sent mine back in, they fixed the motherboard, replaced the heatsinks, and (hooray!) replaced my grinding, unreliable optical drive at the same time.
