For it to get wet and unstick itself later?

It does nothing except help it conform to some BS noise law, so IMO get rid.

what is the foam there for then becuase it sits right on top of the airbox ?? so dose it stop air flow ?

i got rid of the foam, and fitted tank raisers or (doorstops 60p from DIY shop)

twas a bit more noise,
