EDIT: beaten to the sums
o

could old engine oil clog up the scottoiler thou ??

or next q i saw on ebay a silcone make machanical oiler (accererating and braking works on )any body tried it if so whats it like?

what should the flow adjuster be set to? I've just remembered that mine is still set to "Prime" after fitting it last night. Am I going to get home to find that my bike has done a wee all over the floor?

With the oiler set correctly then the fling is minimal if you get any at all.

Its much much eaiser to get off, a spray of muc off then wipe with sponge and then rinse off and its gone.

Depends on the bike and what the ambient temperature is. I turn mine up till I get fling on the rear wheel and then turn it back a notch.

F##k me, the title's even spelt correctly. Making progress there Kurtis.

Use old engine oil, or if you want something which will stick to the chain a little, mix it up 50-50 with chainsaw oil (which is the scottoiler oil without dye in it). Pretty much anything will work fine, just ensure it has no large contaminants in it.

Yes.

Prime is basically the maximum flow rate which gets the oil through the tube when you first set it up. Once you have all they air bubbles out etc and the oil is flowing you should set the flow rate back to a different setting....otherwise you'll end up with oil all over the floor and an empty Scottoiler!

You'll have to play with the settings slightly as it isn't very accurate, but the instructions say something like a setting where you achieve 1-2 drops per min I think...in carp conditions (rain/snow), you should set it higher I think and in summer you should lower the setting as the warmer it gets outside, the quicker the oil flows.

If in doubt, rtfm!

aye, read the manual, but the manual doesn't account for the missus asking "are you coming back in yet?" every 5 mins over the period of an hour, and when you start rushing a little in the last 15 mins, you forget things, like the scottoiler "p*ss flow adjuster"...

and as for bleeding the air out of the system by squeezing the scottoiler filler bottle - what a f*cking stupid idea! the pipe popped off the bottle and scottoil when absolutely everywhere - all over the bike, all over the floor, on me, in my ear... shiite

still, it's fitted now, so as you say I'll prolly only have a bit of bike wee to clean up when i get in

No, not unless your bike is running. The flow valve only opens when the engine is running, which is why it needs connecting to a vacuum spigot on the throttle bodies.
