Might be worth draining the carbs and seeing if there is any water in them. There easy enough to get to and use a piece of plastic pipe to funnel the petrol away from the engine so it aint a big clean up job.
It might just need new plugs? My 600 Bandit use to fire up best with choke fully open and a little throttle when I prodded the starter switch. |

That's an option.
I'm going to work on technique first- it's possibly just that, but will get him round to look at the plugs and carbs next. It has started on 2 mornings, but not the last two... Cheers for the suggestions guys |

Has he had the battery on the optimate? Like chris says the voltage can drop off fast and the bike will never start then

Don't think so- if necessary, we could jumpstart it. I'm guessing it's not that bad, as it started last night- so maybe the cold makes it struggle- if anything therefore just under?
I also need to check if he's switching the lights of when starting- helped me no end. Donal |

Well I fortunatly have a Volt meter on the dash on the falco and when I had starting issues it was because the Voltage dropped below 10. When its cold a bettery loses push as well so low charge and low temp = no start. Low charge and ok temp = may start.
So my advice is get it on the optimate. If it wont start later jump it and if it starts straight off you know the problem. ![]() |

A few things I have found to cuase these kinds of issues
- water droplets in the carb - you'll know if you have this as it will cut out in the top quarter of the rev range too - faulty timing retard eliminator thing gave me intermittent starting - mouse made a house in my airbox - pinched feul line after removing the tank! does it bump start fine? as this will indicate a different set of problems to not being able to bump start it either! |

Well- it started again fine this evening- we had a lovely trip to Boxhill.
I'm going to stop by in the morning, as his GF is 5 mins from mine- see what's up. My money's going on cold start- possibly battery. He's got a charger at home... |

Cool, is it an optimate (bike charger?) he can leave it on over night if it is and he'll see then if it starts better after a night of charge. ![]() |
