I would try for test ride and then make your decision after that.
I must say i have had my SV for about 8 or 9 months now and im always thinking of upgrading then i think i cant ride the SV anywhere near its limits yet due to lack of experience so whats the point in spending a fortune on summit faster not to mention the hike in insurance. mick |

I'll be honest.. I personally prefered the IL4.. I keep running into the rev limiter and the engine braking is just wow.

If it's a good price and you like it, why not. Deffo try and get a go on one though, I found the R6 engine a bit peaky personally (even for an IL4 600) when I had a go on one, but loads of other people like them.

They are great bikes with superb handling. it may not be any more FUN than your SV though so atest ride is a must really. I had a go on one and found it to be extremely twitchy compared to my SVs. as you are coming from a naked, the difference will be more pronounced. The SW is very forgiving of the little errors you make when learning to ride, but the R6 will not be so forgiving. Don't let that put you off, they are awsome, but just think about what you want from a bike - "better" bike doesn't nessescarily mean better bike for YOU.

ok guys a bit of background.
im 29 and been riding since august last year. so changing to the r6 is going to be a large increase in insurance (+300 quid ish) however since having the sv i need a new set of tyers on it, have fitted new pads, scottoiler and springs+oil to the front and i keep thinking the brakes are poop. so im thinking mybe the extra cash spent on some new rubber would be another 200 quid towards a new bike. however. i havnt done many rideouts and i do ride right from tickover on the sv thanks to its torque. i also commute5 miles each day through traffic. ive got no need for a faster bike but do like the way the r6 was smaller and more compact than the sv so it just got me thinking. on the flip side ive just got a 900 quid gas bill that i should sort out.... i guess i should have a go at a test ride? |
