AFAIK a Fender Extender will do on it's own. The silicone should just be an extra thing to do, IMO.

AFAIK i don't have silicon round the front plug socket and in the (very heavy and flooded roads) rain the other week I had no issues.

Either will do - I don't like the look of extendas, but the silicone works fine by itself. Make sure the drain hole is clear too!

Not quite, I had an extender and the bike refused to start on both cylinders after being left in the rain for the night. This never occurred once I started using the grease.
Do both.

Read this
And buy this in Maplins: Silicone grease, part no. RE90X

Think this one has been answered enough but as others have said if you need a hand with anything get on the Aberdeen banter hotline and one of us Aberdeen folk will try to lend a hand.

Have you solved the problem now? Hope all is good and you have it running on both now.

Baph put grease on mine at the weekend, its not tested yet but when it rains I may go and try it out. If it works I will have a fender extender for sale (as I am to lazy to fit it LOL)

When you fit your extender use the screws or you might find it goes missing down the road.
Some reason the sticky fixers arn't very good on the sv fender
