They are a very top heavy bike , have you considered the good old DR350 , nice little wheelie machine , good for green laning and not fetching steeeeooooopid money like the DR/z400 does

M8 of mine had the 800 - bit big & heavy for offroad, but onroad it was mental. I had the XT 600 which i found to be a good bike on/off road with semi dirt tyres. Probably the most fun I ever had with my clothes on. Top speed was around 95 mph but B roads were ace for upsetting sports bike riders - can see which way road is going as you're that much higher up. I'd definitley recommend a big traily at some point in everyones biking career - the green laning shows just what you can get away with when a bike is sliding all over the place. Top fun!

It'll be mainly for road with the odd gravel track, there isn't a lot of proper offroad here in Holland. I'm thinking DR BIG as it'll be good for keeping my licence in Holland, trundling around the dykes etc, the GSXR can't be let off its leash here..
