I'm an MOT tester, we are not allowed to remove anything from a vehicle.

We can only check what is visable at the time of the test.

For example: A car is presented for test, it is fitted with Hub-Caps. Making sure that the vehicles' wheels are securely attatched is part of the test. But we CANNOT remove the Hub-Caps to check presence of ALL the wheel bolts/nuts. Therefore they are no-longer a testable item on THAT particular vehicle as they cannot actually be tested.

So there you go.
This peculiar rule has it's benefits to us fans of loud cans but i have to admit i'm gobsmacked about that wheel nut / hub cap thing. An MOt test may not identify that you have a loose wheel? That's just ridiculous!

well that certainly does not happen in the garages i have used in wiltshire and gloucester, this makes a farce of the whole mot test if you can pass with a wheel held on with only one bolt!

The MOT scheme is a farce, No two ways about it, but they are the rules.

The faults on cars that 'we' are not allowed to 'reject' would turn your hair grey!

Anyway, don't wanna derail this thread.
