I don't need to take the cover off on the LHS of engine do I? Just trace the wires back, which come up behind tail fairing on RHS of pillion seat..

OK, just tested resistance across the connector plug which leads back to the pulse generator coil. Came in at 189 ohms which is good

Chris how do I check continuity between pulse coil and ICU? One probe in the end of the connector plug loom side, and the other in the respective wire at the ICU connector block?

Yes. Or test the resistance directly at the ICU connector.

OK that was wierd.. I had continuity from both wires at the connector block when tested individually to the respective terminal at the ICU, but didn't have anything (just read 1) when I tested across just the terminals at the ICU if that makes sense. Any idea why?

have you checked that you have not suffered from the curvey loom rubbing through? look at the loom as is passes behind the frame on the left side of the bike, just infront of the battery

If you're testing it at the ICU connector.
