I haven't measured it yet been revising grr.

I'll do it tonight and get a few more pictures of the sprocket + chain, I think its alright the teeth are in fair condition.

I'll get the actual milage too later.

Thanks for responses

Think thats a take the engine casing off jobby to check? Will have to do it at the weekend no time free really atm. Had a look inside with a torch but if I have to take casing off then I'll give it a clean too.

I measured the slack, my measurement just got under 4cm (3.8cm).

Here is my attempted illustration in picture form, with credit to my brother for being near 100% useless.

The white mark is where the top of the chain is (measurement line was top of the chain) - 3.6cm

Then.. 7.1cm

3.5cm currently, manual says 0.8 to 1.2inch 3cm, so will give it a tighten a whisker below 3cm and see how it is.

Rear sprocket in my opinion is fine, the teeth are still alright not rounded off to a ridculous level. I'll get a second opinion of one of mates who does all his stuff himself, but hes at college 100+miles away at the minute.

Hey! Just come in from fiting a new rear renthal sprocket and checking chain tension.

In those photos above you've got the bike on the paddock stand. You need to check the slack when its off the stand and ideally when your sat on it. This is where you need a mate! Or you can put it on the side stand and lean over the bike from the other side placing your weight over the seat - checking the slack while the blood goes to your head!
You need to do this so the suspension is in play. That slack will be partially taken up when you remove it from the paddock stand.

Just a question for other thread readers. I've been playing with the tensioners to try and get the chain running evenly either side over the sprocket teeth. Anybody else bother much with this?

Thanks Will get that done, did it with the side stand on but no weight on the bike, I'll have another go at it tomorrow.

RTFM
The 30mm slack on the sidestand is the correct amount for some free play left when the suspension is compressed.

Bit more slack will not hurt though. I wouldn't be worried by 40mm.

Yes, chain run needs to be straight. This is function of wheel alignment, use 2 straight edges to be absolutely sure.

Ok thanks, well I can hear it "hitting something" or like a slapping affect - is that something to be concerned by?

I might tighten it slightly to get it back nearer the 30mm mark.
