It's horses for courses.
F800 et al won't carry the luggage or have same range as 1200, but will be better off road. On the road, any proper road bike will be miles ahead of any 1940s engined kraut iron. In the words of "that Mr Hitler;" "F#ck Ewan and F#ck Charlie, I want chain f#cking drive. And gear driven cams"
