We are also talking about a difference that is more than 25% of HER total life-span.

Its not the actual age difference as such, its the fact that she's a child.

Now if he was 21 and she was 17 - no harm, no foul.......

Oh and yes, I know that the 16 thing IS just an arbirtary line in the sand, and that in historical times, girls of 14 got married off to much older guys, but its the world we live in today that matters.

Or maybe we are just reading too much into what it means to be someone's Girlfriend these days......

What he said. Couldn't have put it better myself.

I think an age difference is significant when people are young. The difference between a 20 yo and 15 yo in maturity, by and large, is very big. They have very different outlooks and aspirations. It makes for a short relationship. As folks get older, then the age difference is less of an issue.

Where one of the persons is below the age of consent, then there is the worry that sex is happening. This should not be condoned, because IMHO the younger person really does not know what they are getting into.

I think each relationship needs to be judged by those who know both parties and draw conclusions as to if it is appropriate or not. The parents of young teenagers should be the ones who decide on the appropriateness of any relationship they have and act accordingly.

Conclussion: It depends

16 and 20 would still be a little iffy for me to be honest. (no offence anyone)
Sexual to me is anything beyone kissing and cuddling.

I said 16 and 20 purely because 16 is legal and maintains the same age gap previously described.

Certainly a dodgy area - I was 16 going out with a 15 year old - does that make me a bad person?! Its a tough call but the line had to be drawn somewhere in the eyes of the law - once past 16 I think it all depends on the individuals involved though - I met my missus when she was just about to turn 19 and I was 26 - 5 years later on we are happily married and life is good

There are 7 years between me and my husband. I met him a month before my 18th and moved in with him not long after that

Can someone enlighten me as to the ages of the member and his/her gf/bf?

I am 17, and would happily have a girlfriend who is 15.

definitely, I think that's one of the key things. But with a bigger age gap in young people, despite how mature one might seem there's probably still a lot of growing up to be done.
