Dave im sorry to hear about this, however, the way you tell it is that you were coming up the inside of the van and a cyclist pulled into thier cycle lane? You coculnt see the cyclist as you were to close to the van etc etc. Unfortunate, but just one of those things im affraid, hardly the cyclists fault on reflection. If this isnt how its meant to be/or look, then please correct me.

2 lane road through a crossing with cycle lane then narrowing then becoming single lane with bus lane with cycle lane in it.

Cyclist was traversing 2 lanes to get to the cycle lane.

Anyway Cyclist just went for it without looking and just made a dive for it, this does not make it "one of those things".

I could not see the cyclist due to there being a white van in the way.

If the cyclist didnt think they had done something stupid and wrong, why did they do a runner?

Which is a god reason for ALL road users to have to have insurance, cyclists included!

Goddamn cyclists

I always wondered how much a cycle would affect a bike - you'd kind of think the bike would charge straight through it without really being impacted (handling wise). Guess not

Was it an expensive bike? Hope so. Agreed this is why cyclists should somehow pay some form of 3rd party insurance, if only it was as easy as it is for them to implement for cars/motorcycles (i.e. part of the tax on fuel goes to a 3rd party insurance pool and that's how you get your 3rd party insurance). I can't think of a way to force cyclists to have this insurance.

But if they just dump the bike and run, what does it matter unless the bikes are also registered to them.

Cops figure it was a stolen bike anyway....

Yeah, it's difficult unless you have registration. Unless....there was a way of enforcing mandatory 3rd party insurance via fuel (maybe bananas...lol). That's the ideal cos then it wouldn't matter - you had an accident not your fault, you go to the 3rd party pool of funds and get your stuff repaired

Shame it's not like that though

I didn't realise it was even worth stealing bikes, although I suppose you can get some expensive ones. Did he look like that sort of person??!
