![]() We had a 30 dropped to 20 years ago here on the island because someone ploughed into another person's house Of course what they fail to mention is that the reason he ploughed into said house was that he was a decrepit old duffer who had a heart attack at the wheel, no doubt due to exceeding the original 30mph limit ![]() I truly hate those "Twenty's Plenty" signs, they seem to be viewed as a kind of lowest common denominator speed restriction by the HA here, there's ALWAYS a numpty grockle or idiot old fart who doesn't know the limit is really 30 and dawdles along at 15mph with a vast queue forming behind them...

Perhaps the government and parents should spend a little more time and effort teaching bloody kids not to walk out into the road without looking, then maybe traffic wouldn't crawl along and cause so much congestion.

All the streets around my house are 20mph as there are two primary schools nearby. We also have extended double yellow lines on corners to make it safer for cars to see pedestrians crossing at junctions.
In general the speed limits and parking are adhered to, except for just before 9am, and just after 3.30pm. A lot of the parents dropping their little angels off tend to ignore all the traffic measures put in to make the streets safer for their kids ![]() |

I do loads of miles a year, and see 20mph limits in pretty much every town i go thro'. I don't have a problem with it, especially in residential areas and around schools.
However, isn't it about time the 70 limit was upped in line with the quality and capabilities of the vehicles on the road now?

Problem is, quantites of vehicles have increased considerably and driving standards quite probably haven't improved over the same period either. Will never happen IMO.

Traffic restriction is getting daft around Kingston- there's a main road (Villiers Road for locals) that has become a 20 with speed (table) humps. It does pass between 2 schools and I would accept this for those specific areas, but no. The WHOLE ROAD!
I think it's because the person responsible for the roads in the borough is a cyclist and therefore hates motorised vehickles... |

I think 20 limits are just as common in London as Scotland, the whole of my area - including my road - is, (an ignored), 20 limit.
