I'd be more inclined to hang fire and wait for details on that, mind you if its the 2 litre 8v it puts out 115bhp ish, and it is flat as a pancake, if its the 1.8 Turbo that pushes out 150bhp and is a whole heap of fun more to drive.

Saying that I dont know if I would buy a petrol again, something like the GT TDi as Viney says will have the same performance but far better MPG.

Other stuff to look at is the Seats, Leon / Ibiza and the baby Skoda ( the Fabia ) Both are basically cheaper rebadged VW's and worth a look at IMHO.

You didnt have to pay the bill and it still needs another set done

Cost more to do the bushes on the Focus than it did to do the bushes on my Golf GTI, both were done at main dealers and the Golf was half the price to put right.

I did, but cost + 10% as my dad works for a autoparts company and free labour as he fitted them i also had to replace my rear coils as one had snapped, which then also found one of my shocks leaking

113k seems to be about the right mileage on these cars, although that would make me want to steer away from it.

It might be the 1.8 Turbo actually, as he said it was the GTi Turbo

When my escort got written off last year I got a 57plate VW passat estate as a courtesy car (you may remembar it form AR0 and the diesel engine was superb up untill that point the only diesels I had driven were Transits, Sprinters and 18t Ivecos!!!!

Out of the two thats the one I'd get, not as quick and the handling wont be as good, but it is a much IMHO more refined car.

Test drove a 53 plate st170 before we got the subaru. Didn't have that many miles on it but the wheel bearings sounded sh***ed and the brakes worn out. Sure it went ok, pulled decently enough and handled well enough but I wasn't impressed by the flimsey looking bonnet flapping about in the wind like a flag. Another thing that I didn't like was the seat, it felt like you sat on it and not in it, which is preferable in a car of that ilk. The recaro chairs that were an option in them would be better but the one I tested didn't have them. My wife detested the car.

Well here's a pic of the ST

2003 model, has 113k on it, 11 months MOT, 3 mths tax, full leather interior with Recaros, tsw alloys with new tyres, fsh, stainless steel exhaust with standard back box, DVD player, build in sub and has been lowered with Jamex springs. Lookimng at the pic it looks like it's also got non standard headlights.

Here's the Golf

2002 model, 93k 10 mths MOT, 2 mths tax, fsh, recaros, RS8 alloys, alpine stereo with ipod connector

Focus has non standard headlights as you spotted and those foglights arent standard either I think...

Golf looks alot less mucked about with, those alloys are IMHO a nice mod, looks better than the TSW's do on the Focus, Golfs a nicer colour as well.

Is the Golf a 1.8T or the 2 litre 8V lump

If its a Turbo and it were my money I'd be getting the Golf.

He siad it's the Turbo

The foglights on the ST are the standard ones, that's the thing that's putting me off the ST is some of the stuff on there i wouldn't want to leave on there. Don't want the sub or it lowered and would be looking for some standard wheels asthey look much nicer.

If the Tornado sells I'll have a lot more choice but these are what I've been offered as a swap

Ditto on the ST, I'd rather take a standard car and then do what I want to it, rather than inheriting somebody else's idea of tasteful modifications...

Can you get another pic of the back of the Golf ? If its a turbo it the GTI badge on the back will have a red "i" instead of a silver one.

It could have been changed to make it look like its something its not, but its not the sort of thing most Golf owners do TBH.
