Apparently the UK's not getting the director's cut for ages; limited to the US market at the moment.

Seconding the "get the book" opinion: it's so much better than the film. I can't think of a single thing Alan Moore's written that's been faithfully transferred to the screen.

Richie, normally you speak sense - what went wrong here?

The problem with Watchmen is that is a Superhero film without most of what people expect to find in a Superhero film.

The 1st 10 minutes of The X-Men, or Spiderman or even Wolverine have probably got more "Superhero film" in them than The Watchment.

That because The Watchmen is a commentary on the 80 political environment, set behind a Film Noire/50's Sam Spade style who dunnit, the costumes (and super powers of the few who have them) are merely window-dressing and plot-devices, rather than the drivers of the plot.

I had read the book before, probably about 20 years ago, so I kind of knew not to expect Superman or Batman, but it had been long enough ago that it was all fresh.

I must dig up a copy of the Book again (waiting for a Book/Movie bundle)
