stuck brake pad pin (02 curvy)
Hey all, this is my first post on the forum so just to say its good to be here, theres some great people on here.

Right on the SV650 front brake caliper there is 1/4inch or so pin which holds one side of the pads. The Haynes manual simply says "remove the R clip and withdraw the pin" it does not however account for 13000miles worth of rust!

The fix that i used when a soaking with penetrant fluid, heating with propane and a big set of grips didnt work was to simply drill the outer side of the calliper.
This exposes the outer side of the pin to the tender loving affections of a HSS punch, a 2lb hammer and some more penetrant fluid.

In my opinion this area is not stressed, so this slight bit of butchery is safe enough, and it makes it much easier to strip them next time too, the only thing is the modified calliper doesnt look as good due to the hole.
Still beats paying £15 at the breakers for a new calliper though...

Cheers

Chris
