The A1P is a really good bike. My brother had one and I really liked it. Plenty of go and very comfortable for a SS600.

I got my CBR600RR after 2 years of riding. I have only been riding for a total of 6 years so - NO! It won't be too much of a beast. Throttle works both ways mate.

They are I believe the same Tokico calipers as Suzuki uses except IIRC they use a difference caliper bolt size. Anyway I was chatting to someone and he said that the 6 pots are *ace* when fully fettled with new pads, the problem is though that the pads wear diagonally, this then both wears the calipers plus the pistons need to move further to press the pads to properly contact the discs.
This is further exasperated by the number of pistons meaning that they don't move far and get crudded up quicker

which then also doesn't allow the pads to return correctly.

The result of this is squidgy brakes, worn calipers

and ruined discs unless you keep very much on top of them.

My 9 is the F2 model(the last one they made)and has 4 pot brakes. They are great real world bikes, not as sporty as the competition, but comfortable and fairly economical to run. They do need slightly more services than others, but will return 60+MPG if ridden smoothly on a run,and 50+ MPG out of town doing 80-90MPH.Weak point is rear shock which dislikes bumpy surfaces and is hard to set up.Loads of easy power available which can make you lazy,Twist and go???

Yup, my 7R uses the same Tokico 6 pots. The ones that came on it were sh*gged as were the disks. Fitted a set off a busa (same callipers) that were almost new and new disks. Now stops very well, but she is a second bike so i can take more time over cleaning them etc. If it was going to be my everyday bike I'd opt for some 4 pots or Nissin also do a 6 pot caliper which will fit the Kwaks - hard to get hold of though.

the C model 9's are the ones to have apparently as DD has said.

I don't have a ZX9, but my ZX6R from 2001 (J2 model) shares a lot of the same or very similar components.

Apparently the C1 models are subject to gearbox failiures due to a fairly minimal tollerance for wear on a couple of components. If this fails getting new parts is hard and to fix it would require a strip & rebuild. I'd reccomend a C2 or E model. The C models have the 6 pots, which tend to require a fair bit of maintenance and also wear where the pads hit the caliper body as you go over bumps, the E models look more like the ZX6R J models with the twin headlights and IIRC have 4 pot nissin calipers. Both should be as comfortable, and feel very similar to ride.

Have a go on one and see what you think

You can fit 4 pot calipers off an SRAD suzuki 600 to a 9r. Those combined with braided lines make good brakes which don't need constant maintenance as per the 6 pots do.. Just try and find a set of SRAD calipers now - very rare...

TL1000S calipers I suppose would also fit then.

SRAD calipers, I have a couple of sets but they always arrive knackered and needing a refresh.

I think you should come down here and we..... er, YOU can take one for a test

; )

I did bump into someone camping once who had a 6 and a 9 and he said he only used his 6 when he was out on a beasting run or on a track day, he said the handling might be slower on the 9 but unless you really are a 'progressive rider' it's not a problem.

But as you know I have not been on either myself.
