I know you aren't allowed a sneaky speed op like that, you HAVE to put up speed camera signs and have marked vehicles.
Like the others say, that is an ANPR operation and it doesnt only target unlicenced vehicles. Most of the very good arrests of real nasty burglars and drug lords etc happen using that method...good for them running an operation to get the sh*t off the street, but bad for them to look unprofessional doing it.

If you really are that miffed about it Stu, send the pictures to their Area Commander with your thoughts on the matter.

Parking on double yellows other than in an emergency is a no-no!

They do it all the time round this area, but i think its a good thing to stop uninsured cars and bike, that why are premiums are so high

Those ones for uninsured are not police they are usually the DVLA who have a similar setup.

There is a DVLA van that parks up in Wellingborough all the time but that has nothing to do with the police ANPR.

If the ANPR are running an op, it's likely they are not counting on targetting uninsured vehicles as much as catching the real criminals of the road.

We would get our ass totally kicked for parking on DYL unless in response to a call!

Probably not necessary now.

DVLA don't have anything to do with insurance, they're the tax men! They'll clamp your car and charge an enourmous fee to get it released if you've no VEL. They can't report people for no insurance.

Personally, if they're out siezing cars for no insurance and fining them, I'm all for them parking wherever they want in whatever unmarked cars they want. I've nothing to fear from them because I actaully pay through the nose for my insurance unlike some of the scrotes out there!

The van is also manned, so if someone needs access to get, its easy to go round the block once to allow access. Common sense approach here people! Maybe he's tactically using the space made available by the double yellows to allow the space for him to see number plates as they go passed without being blocking by other cars?

Don't do anything wrong and they won't bug you!

And by the way, for those "picking on the public opinions" in my service as a copper, I've had more points put on my licence than I've given to other people. Work that one out.

Easy. Either:

1. you don't observe the road ahead adequately and so didn't spot the speed - sorry, safety - cameras, or

2. you're lenient, and/or

3. you you didn't check (or remember) where the speed - sorry, safety - cameras were to be located during the weeks in question

Simples........

I've never been caught by a camera

And maybe I am a bit more easy going than some, but then again, I'm not one to preach. And most normal cops that I know are the same...
