cant get ebay in work, but see its a gasser,
again they make tidy trials bikes (the ones with no seat) and i have had a few, like beta but just never heard much about the enduros, and like beta they dont seem very popular, is there a reason for this? |

Ok, Green laning is basically taking a road legal dirt bike or 4x4 across areas of land that are still classed as byways.
You will need a road legal bike or 4x4 as mot, insurance and tax all apply on byways. As for the bike, pretty anything goes as long as its got plenty of ground clearance and you dont mind dragging it out of the mud at some stage. I have used anything from a dt125r (ages ago) to my 520 exc (yesterday). With the 4x4 part, I'll have to leave that to stretchie and co to explain as dragging something that big through the mud has never been my game! |

Would this be muddy enough? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yx7CFmGpuo That shows a UCR, with bike tracks avoiding the hole, but in fact they are off the RoW and technically trespassing / breaking the law.

Nice open trails and has always been dry when I have been there, even in the winter. Watch out for open patches of sand though ![]() |

Speedplay, Stretchie has, as usual understated his knowledge. He's got OS maps marked out and on his phone with all the mud traps, water holes, steep hills etc, so he'll certainly be able to halp you make it a good day for all. Salisbury Plains covers an area of 300 square miles...yep, that's how big it is! It is littered with byways and what the land wardens call Permissible Roads. There is no way of knowing which of the non-byway tracks are permissible unless you have been told by the Wardens. Stretch and I know a few, but the safest way to play is just to stick to the byways.
This isn't like being on a mountain byway. You're in a military base and they are very strict and well set up to cath people breaking the law. Stretch and I have been chatting to a warden and listening in to the conversation between him and a helicopter pilot tracking down a group of non road legal dirt bikes. You don't get a warning on Salisbury, you're likely to be saying goodbye to your bike/4x4 if you're caught! What Stretch said about groups is true also. Small groups missing a byway, getting confused can just about get away with it if it's genuine, but a large group or a few bikes off the byway, playing in mud etc can get in trouble. That said, stick to the laws and byways and you can have SO MUCH fun. There's plenty of mud and water, loads of tracks that Stretch and I know really well and a couple of steep inclines/declines! I'd actually really like to see a bike get up one of the stony hills! Oh, and if you're on a bike and need towing, you'll have people to call in 4x4's...lol. Last time we came across bikes, they let us go through a water trap and decided not to bother seeing it come over our bonnet...lol |
