I agree with the severity of the charges but wonder, not knowing the American system, how much plea bargaining there will be.

I do feel that some of the sentencing in the UK could do with a good overhaul. Quite often we see 'crimes against the person' sentences being paltry. Yet, for example, a fraud case might see the offender getting hammered.

Because fraud costs the government more than crimes against the person!

I'm not suggesting the fraudster should be treated more lightly (its been a long day ) I just feel that the law abiding public could do with the protection of tougher sentences for crimes against the person.

I'll go and lie down now...

Oh, I am in complete agreement with you. If I was in charge, I'd bring more of Americas police powers into action over here. Someone steals a car, endangers peoples lives, resists arrest, go American and slam them to the floor, jump on their back and remind them that they are not above a bit of punsihment!

Criminals laugh at the system now and the people that really suffer are the police and the victms of crime!

GUILTY!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/8269776.stm

"For the prosecution to prove murder, they have to prove my client was depraved and had a wicked mindset," he said.

Well, he was also found guilty of assault AND was clearly not the most upstanding of citizens as he lied in order to get his license and job and also willingly drove without medication in order to be able to feel the full effects of alcohol!

"That is not the case. He made a mistake which will haunt him for the rest of his life."
It is the case, it's just not as black and white a some people would like it AND I'm sure it will haunt him for the rest of his life, but that couple paid the ultimate price for his immature, stubborn, reckless and selfish decisions!

as for this chap well he knowingly if stupidly knew he was taking a risk by not using meds so yes he should be done to the highest standard possible, gemma drinks, socialises, and does everything i do on her meds so not taking them is unnessary and pointless
In the UK (different in other countries) for Class 1 (cars and bikes) it's seizure free for one year and reviewed every 3 until seizure free for 7 then back to normal licence Glad to hear she staying well
