thats what I thought, but apparently it dosnt work like that a soft-focus lense (or the equivalent photoshoping effect) gives a soft effect but also allows better retention of the outlines of an object

All my stuff is still on silver-halide (old Olympus OM1-n) - really do need to enter this digital revolution thing

Bit of googlage found a match - http://www.flickr.com/photos/electro...st/1900406718/ - it's the same principle, something moving, take three exposures, you get spots of individual (coloured) sharpness rather than a combined blur.

Edit: oooh, another one - http://www.jeffg-allen.com/Other/Har...71944870_uC55H - that's quite purdy, typical long exposure cars going over bridge thing, but rather than stuck to just blurred headlights and taillights you get this rainbow of colour streaming across the bridge.

dont know if this has been answered fully,

i dont think theres anysuch thing as a soft focus lens, can be done by using a clear glass filter with a tiny ammount of vaseline smeared on it, takes a lot of trial and error to get right though, dont get any on your lens though its likely to damage the protective coatings, , i use light room and you can "soften" shots by reducing contrast and sharpness, but its not the same as the old vaseline trick, always gets a laugh when you whip out a tub of vaseline at a wedding...........

Ditto - i've got a filter sitting in my case along with a myriad of colour filters but i won't get them to you by staurday

if you got a good camera don't waste it by cheap tricks - the filters will ensure a soft focus around the subject while allowing the subject to be sharp.
its cheesey and eighties you should gor for punchy edgey black and white shots processed by hand Tmax 3200 creates some great shots
either that or push your film

Sorry old school - haven't dragged myself into the digital ages yet
Have agreat time on saturday!
