I'd give it the ultra quick carb clean out! I've done it on my bike and it has improved its running and also tried with sucess on a number of cars. I learnt it from an AA man!

1. Raise tank.
2. Start engine.
3. Rev engine to approx 4000 - 5000 rpm
4. Place hand over intake or snorkel. You will feel your hand being sucked down and the revs will drop as the engine can't breathe.
5. Lift hand before it stalls and the engine should pick up again. If the engine stalls allow it a minute for the excess fuel to vaporise before restarting.
6. Repeat a couple of times for good measure.

The idea of this is that the engine will suck as hard as possible through the carb jets and will suck through any gunky fuel and/or bits of dirt and hence clean itself out.

Hey presto she should be running like a dream!

Sticking choke plungers will cause rough running. Also part throttle jerkiness can be a shagged chain/sprockets.

Now theres a blast from the past! We used to do that to old carbs for cars we got from breakers etc! Thanks for the reminder!

I have a BMC to go in and some new carbs with velocity stacks etc. Lot of stuff to play around with, and generally f**k up no doubt!

Funny you should say that! I was looking last night to se if I could drain the fuel bowls in case of water contamination and I saw a cable splitter box. i gathered that was for chokes and from what I could see the elbow joint to the front carb was caught up and sort of twisted. At least it didn't look right. I moved things about as best as I could and now the choke operation is smoother. Alos it has improved things considerably!
