That's wiered! Quite logical though on a windy day that leaves and petals will blow around. But isn't it silly how we can take comfort from little things. I can make such a difference in feeling at peace with a lost loved one. My sister has a thing about Butterflies. She see's them as a sign from Grandad and has seen them in abundance since his death. |

I actually find it a little bit creepy that *normally* rational people are suddenly going onto the forum and "seeing" hovis everywhere like he's a benevolent angel watching down over us or the second coming.
Dare I ask if we knock this sort of thing on the head? Let's face it, there is no afterlife. God isn't watching you. That isn't the image of Jesus that you're seeing in your cappucino. Keep calm and carry on. |

Erm with respect that`s your opinion and you have absolutely no right whatsoever to impose your view on others. No I don`t find it creepy, yes I am rational, and I don`t think you have any right to ask for it to be "knocked on the head". I don`t claim to be seeing Hovis and I don`t vision him as a "benevolent angel". I am actually undecided on whether or not there is an afterlife and until I have total proof ie. seeing a ghost then I think I will always remain undecided. I have actually witnessed and heard lots of stuff that does make me curious and I do believe that if there is an after life then our friends and loved ones would send "small tokens" to us to alert us to their presence. HOWEVER............. What is going on here is a totally natural reaction to losing a friend/loved one. People get great comfort from actually believing that the person is still around them in one form or another. I speak to my mum all the time even though she`s dead. I also speak to my nan and my little boy all the time even though they too are dead and I`m sure that Kate speaks to her Grandad all the time even though he is dead. This gives me great comfort and actually helps me at times of feeling distressed... I would go so far as to say that when I talk to them it brings a great sense of calm. Whether this is in my mind or is, in fact, due to the interventions of my dead family I don`t know and I don`t care! Please don`t unkindly dismiss other peoples beliefs or comforting mechanisms just because of your own views. |

i speak to my mum all the time. it is comforting for anyone if this is what they chose to do. it is also how people deal with death of a loved one . yet we do not tell others how they should deal with their grief so please do not dismiss how we chose to deal with ours. support comes in many forms and guises |

I agree with Speedy and Quedos.
Although I don't think Kinvig was saying we should knock it on the head, what he put can be read in a few ways. But when I saw the Hovis shop it was in a 1 hour drive as passenger, whilst I was paying no attention to nothing, not even looking out the window, the only time I do and that is there. It was coincidence but made me smile and I immediately thought of our fallen friend. I am sitting on the fence with the after life scenario, when my Nan died things happened which I could not explain, and I had an image of my Nan as did my mum, in the same place wearing the same clothes ... that I cannot explain. I pray and speak to close people I have lost and I am not religious, but at the end of the day I have comfort from it. I am *normal* - everyone has beliefs and views and some people do believe in God and afterlife, just because you don't it's called respect for others diversity.

I'm abnormal
![]() Before the weekend I was just playing a few random CDs and playing my guitar along, for some reason I slipped in the S&M Metallica album, and as soon as Nothing Else Matters came on I just couldn't play anymore, and just sat in silence thinking of Hovis. The last time I heard that track I was stood in a crematorium singing the words. That track will always be heard as a reminder of Hovis now, it never really had much significance before, apart from a good track to play my guitar to. So no I don;t think we are all creepy.

well said Phil, well said all..
As the OP of this thread.. I just popped it up as I found it both interesting and amusing, no religious overtones. I am in fact an Atheist and have strong views on churches and their practices, I have turned down the honour of godfather for that reason and not been asked subsequently to be one because of my known views, I avoid churches etc and it shows to me, the power of the Hovis to make me ride to Cardiff and go in to a church and say goodbye. It is just a bit of fun, some mutual rememberance and there have been some odd happennings in my life since his passing, With respect the main posters in this thread are folk who have ridden with him often, drank with him, shard christmas meals and BBq's in cold fields with him, maybe it does appear "odd" to someone who didn't share his company but you have the option of not reading the thread. |

What we are discussing are things that remind us of Hovis, or indeed anyone we have lost, and the things we take comfort from. I'm not too sure that can be classed as "creepy". It's not like we are holding a seance to try and contact him is it!? Oooh I wonder if Derek Acorah is available! |
