Phil, I'm not a windows techie but am a computer techie. I had a similar problem with a mate's laptop the other day. You need to first uninstall the driver in Device Manager, then delete the .INF file that associates the driver to the device, that way when you install the new driver, Windows will find the WLAN device with no associated driver and associate the new driver. Here is a link to the technical stuff that helped me get rid of the driver.
