Id like to see VR go independant like Kenny Roberts.(maybe join KR?)His reputation could be enough to generate the sponsorship required to develope a GP bike from scratch.

Suzuki were rubbish this year.
No expense spent. Rossi is only going to join a winning team and that ain't Suzuki. He is just playing. Maybe using the Ducati offer the same way Lorenzo did. Another Yamaha team would sort it out. I can see Rossi at Ducati but only for the money. I don't think he would fit there. |

It wouldn't though - the reason Rossi is apparently miffed is because he feels he developed the bike and now Yamaha are letting one of his fiercest rivals compete against him using the machine. If Yamaha create a new team for either of them, it's still the same thing.

I have seen a quote somewhere along the lines of "he couldn't develop a roll of film, let alone a bike".
Vale is notoriously tough & demanding on those he works with - he doesn't exactly demand but just expects 110% all the time - the mitigating factor is that he demands exactly the same of himself. I have no doubt that Vale sees Lorenzo as a threat on the track - but that he feels a percentage of this success is due to his development of the bike & therefore 'undeserved'. IIRC the only teamate with whom he's had a good working relationship is Colin Edwards - a rider who he considers to be the best development rider in the paddock & someone who shreas his work ethic. IMO whether Rossi stays or goes elsewhere is ultimately dependant on whether Jerry Burgess could also be persuaded to move - I don't believe that Vale would go anywhere without him.

I think VR has a point but it is also true that he gets paid more then Lorenzo partly because of this. Someone else has to ride the other Yamaha's and he can't seriously expect Yamaha only to give them to second rate riders. Can he? I've indicated in a couple of previous post that Lorenzo needs to put his money where his mouth is, if he thinks he is as good as Rossi he should go and prove it by going to another team (as Rossi did from Honda to Yamaha). Then we'll know whether he is simply a fantastic racer or the full package. Mind you I'd be happy just to be a fantastic racer! (or even a mediocre racer for that matter) |

Because Rossi and Suppo aren't exactly the best of friends.
![]() Vito Guareschi on the other hand, is a mate of his! ![]()
