I'm using Nero, which converts them to Mpeg4. File size is reduced to DiVX or Xvid size.

I think that there was a free download of Nero9 which I downloaded. I've got it somewhere and I'm pretty sure it was a full version of Nero9, not a cut down version, or a time limited option

All the other supposed 'Free' software has been trial versions. There must be some freeware ripping software out there somewhere
