Originally developed for aircraft, it's been adopted by bikers due to easy application and a necessity for protection. There are a few places that are authorised professional applicators, that will charge around £35 to do the whole bike. There are different schools of though on how it should be used, from a good coating at the beginning of the winter and don't wash until the spring, to wash bike regularly and re-apply after every wash. I've a spray tin that cost around £13 last year, and there's plenty left.

It should be applied thinly, and care should be taken to regularly re-coat areas that will be subject to it being rubbed off.

Around wheel areas, forks and the like, I spray in to a container then apply with a paintbrush.

Some mix oil and petrol and spray on, so that once the petrol evaporates, it leaves an oil protective residue behind, but this doesn't have corrosion inhibitors.

I'm not as particular you are about how clean my bike is ...... but I agree .... I'd rather clean it from time to time ....

I don't believe that ACF could hold off a whole winters worth of salt and carp .....and if it can .... then it shouldn't wash straight off from the occasional clean anyway ....

I've got the spray ... and will appy a little after every clean in the winter .....

Yes Steve, Yesterday I took my Aprilia out of the Garage, washed it and cleaned all the crap off, dried it off as much as I could and then left it to dry off some more, then sprayed on some Scotoiller stuff, Simmelar to the ACF50, (but not as good so Dan recons)

Bike is now back in the garage on the centre stand and the front wheel off the ground.
Also it's now SORN, might be out again in March but we'll see.
it's the first time I've put my bike to bed for a long time.... sad sad day. boohoo.

That's a shame , I use my bike to get to work every day and don't use on weekends much , gonna try to get out on more weekend rides next year though

Cheers Steve

I just give bike a clean before salt goes down normally November /December , give a good coat of ACF and then don't touch till March / April , have zero rust after 45k miles

Cheers Steve

This is how I'll be doing it this year, as I can't see any good reason to be taking a protective coating off, and that's a good enough testament to the stuff working.

How thickly do you apply it Steveg? I've read only microns thin, but I tend to go somewhere in the middle - not too thick that it drips, but not so thin that you can't tell it's there.

I'm happy to give it a go - although I might clean and reapply every 2-3 weeks ..... like you I use the bike pretty much everyday ..... even after a week its caked .... god knows what it would be like after a whole winter ....

Riche ....... I'd say your bike is pretty safe there ....... cleaned, protected and wrapped up in a nice warm garage for the winter..... just don't tell my bike - they'll all be wanting it !!

It's not easy to just wash it off, unless you use something like S-Doc 100. A good coating of ACF-50 should easy last the winter, even if you're giving the bike a quick, light rinse down after a wet ride.

That's how I apply it , not so much that's its dripping off , but enough to see there's a layer there.

I give bike a clean , then give it a quick run to warm it up , let it cool a little then apply to slightly warm bike as easier to go on .
The acf is shaken well then stood in some warm water and applied by brush after spraying into ACF lid

Just keep away from brakes / tyres

A can of ACF-50 normally lasts me 3 years

Cheers Steveg
