I would say ther is almost certainly something up with your battery if its flat after 5 days. Mine was outside under a cover with alarm for 2 weeks and started first time no trouble today.

yeah I read that too. I just think that site is wrong. Most others don't refer to it as gel. Also I thought gel batteries didn't come with the acid pack - gel refers to the contents doesn't it? would be kinda hard to mix acid into a gel...

Yes ignition off, or there will be a fair draw. Should be small, or none existent with ignition off. A multimeter should do the job fine, £20 special from halfords is what I use.

I cant imagine a battery discharging like that... infact cold weather reduced self discharge... well any sort of discharge, including the sort needed to start the damn bike

What battery you using Make; model; type etc? How was it when you get it (i.e. what did you have to do before you put it in the bike)? Any other details that might help.

One other thing, if you do go on to get another battery I know of a battery (I use) that is a monster, its only 30mm taller than the standard SV battery but it puts out 22CCA and is 14aH capacity here vs standard SV batteries feeble 90CCA and 10aH here, it should start the SV easy even in very -ve temps
